Vinegar Friday and Dr. Oz

I opened my kitchen cupboard this morning to retrieve my apple cider vinegar to take my morning dose and thought, this would make a perfect picture for Vinegar Fridays. What do you think?

Taking a dose of ACV is the best way to start a Vinegar Friday, don't you think? Today, I took a couple of spoonfuls while eating a hard boiled egg. It was actually quite yummy.

Yesterday, I caught a little bit of The Dr. Oz Show and went from cheering to jeering when Dr. Oz advised adding 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar to a 16 oz. glass of ice water to jump start your metabolism. Doing this daily could burn 21,000 calories in a year. He also mentioned that it will give you more energy and help prevent blood sugar spikes. Go Dr. Oz!!

My cheers turned to jeers, however, when I saw what kind of ACV he was using! It was the clear, pretty stuff. You know, the kind with all the good stuff filtered out. What?! I wanted to pick up the phone right away and let him have it! If you've read my book, you know that research proves the health benefits are realized only when you take organic raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar. So what Dr. Oz was touting is a placebo. Tsk. Tsk.

Results on weight loss vary, of course, but for me, ACV has helped me lose some of those stubborn inches in my waist. It also gives me more energy and definitely curbs my appetite. I'm down 15 lbs. since I started taking it again a few months ago. Yes, I said 'started taking it again.' The fact is, I do not enjoy taking ACV, so I stopped doing it a while back. And guess what? I gained the weight back and my ulcer acted up to the point where I had to take Nexium twice a day! Now, I'm pain-free and Nexium-free. That's a testimonial in and of itself, don't you think?

Keeping it green and healthy with apple cider vinegar,

Hana

  1. I totally agree with you! When I told my husband about it he thought I was nuts. He has been taking it religiously for over a year now. When we were in New Zealand, they actually had some stuff called honeygar. ACV mixed with honey, made it taste so much better. He used to have bad heartburn but has been off of his medication since

  2. Wow... That's pretty amazing that it replaced your Nexium too! That stuff is addicting. It took my hubby a few months to get himself off it.

  3. I really really want my hubby to give ACV a try for his chronic heartburn issues, but he hates the idea of it and i'm positive it will make him gag..... My bottle of Braggs is sitting on a shelf in the kitchen. Any ideas to get him to try it?? I know you mentioned honey..

    2. My husband was the same way. I just took it and he watched me benefit from it and decided he wanted it too. I had alot of trouble going to sleep every night because of restless leg. My feet hurt all the time because I was on them all of the time. About 3 days of taking the Apple cider vinager I could sleep at night and my feet didn't ache. I also noticed my carpel tunnel in my fingers quit hurting. He cannot take it straight mothers, but he starting mixing it half and half with the black strap molasis. (which is an another regiment that we both follow daily) I also noticed after like 8 months into taking the Apple Cider Vinegar that I lost all my belly fat. That was no small feat because I had a C-section from my belly button all the way down. I could not, how hard I tried, tighten my muscles there. I have to say Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar has totally changed both of our lives. When people ask us how we can take that nasty stuff we just laugh and tell them "We've had worse things"

    3. Trisha,

That is an awesome story. Thank you so much for sharing yet another testimony as to how great ACV really is!

  4. That's a tough call, Sara. I prefer taking my ACV by the spoonful, followed by a large glass of water or by eating a hard boiled egg right after I take the ACV. One family in the community makes a morning "tea" with it -- hot water with a TBSP of ACV and a TBSP of honey. The whole family drinks it every day. Others put a TBSP in a 16 oz. glass of water and drink it that way. Some add honey or maple syrup to help with the taste. You have to find the best way for you ... and your husband. Good luck! Let me know how it works out.

  5. Do the apple cider vinegar tablets work?

  6. I honestly don't know. I've taken them, but I doubt they produce the same benefits as the raw organic unfiltered ACV in liquid form. Great question, though!

  7. I bought apple cider vinegar from Wal-mart not knowing there was a difference. It is not clear it looks like apple juice. I just could not remember how much to put in the glass of ice water. Thanks

  8. It's 1 tablespoon per glass (16 oz.). However, if it's not the raw unfiltered ACV, it might not do much good.

I use the filtered ACV for a lot of other things, like softening my feet in a foot bath, pouring 1/2 cup to 2 cups into my bath water, rinsing my hair, bathing my cats, and more. I go into all of these wonderful uses of ACV and distilled white vinegar in my book.

Thanks for reading the blog and taking the time to post a comment!

  9. okay that is interesting, although I don't think I've ever seen organic raw apple cider vinegar, I didn't know it existed! So now I'm keep an eye out for it!

  10. I buy my Braggs ACV at the regular grocery store. You can also find it at Trader Joes (along with their own cheaper brand), Whole Foods and GNC.

  11. I heard about the apple cider ACV on Dr. Oz so I went out and bought some. I bought the raw stuff with mother from Vitamin Shoppe. I just took my first teaspoon today. Is this kind any good. And I just want to loose just about a little belly fat. Will it help. I've read the other posts and they are really good...

  12. Yes, Tonya, that brand should be fine. As long as it's not the filtered ACV, they should all work the same. If you take it faithfully, it should help get rid of belly fat and whittle your waist a bit :-)

  13. Will I get the same affects if I put it in a smoothy or do I need to take it by itself?

    1. You can take it however you'd like. Some people just add it to their salads. A smoothie is a great idea. I wish I liked them. It's a great way to get a whole lot of nutrition all at once!

  14. Thank you soooo much for the POSITIVE comments regarding ACV and the health benefits. I have been suffering from acid reflux, high cholesterol and certainly excessive belly fat when I was in my forties and fifties. I have used ACV off and on for the last few years. After reading these posts on how ACV helps reduce belly fat, I am MOTIVATED to get back on the wagon and be more consistent in reaping the health benefits, especially getting rid of my belly fat. I wonder if it would reduce my cholesterol and heartburn as well. The dosage for me was the most confusing part before, but now, I know taking a tablespoon to 16oz is what is required for the benefits so thanks guys for your testimonies and inspiration on this issue.

    1. I'm glad you found the post to be helpful. Yes, it should help to reduce your cholesterol. And, as long as I'm taking it daily, it completely eradicated my acid reflux, heartburn and ulcer pain. Good luck!

  15. I can't do the apple cider vinegar. I have candida and some swear that it works to make them better. It made me so sick with burning in my chest that I won't try it again.

  16. Do you take this by itself or do you mix it with water?
I have been mixing with grapefruit juice and water and sipping on it through out the day.
Do you think this might work? I am wanting to lose about 15 lbs.

    1. I posted chapter 9 of my book, Vinegar Fridays, which deals with this issue. I encourage you to read it.

As far as grapefruit juice... if you are taking any prescription drugs, check with your doctor to see if it is safe to drink grapefruit juice, as there are a lot of problems with mixing it with certain drugs.

Good luck reaching your weight loss goals!

  18. It's hard to say. I've heard they're not nearly as effective as the raw liquid, so I really don't know.
