Give Books, Not Roses for Valentine's Day Giveaway!

So, here's the deal. Hachette Books wants to give one of you a sweet prize for Valentine's Day -- two books and a yummy chocolate candy bar. Like I said, it's sweet.

The following is a letter from Christina Boys, editor of the two books included in the giveaway:

Dear Reader,

Valentine's Day is just around the corner! The crisp, cool air feels a little sweeter and stores are filling their shelves with greeting cards and candies. But instead of sharing the usual gifts, the way to someone's heart can be through a story (and maybe a little bit of chocolate). Hachette Book Group is offering a "Give Books, Not Roses" Valentine's Day giveaway for those of you who want to express your admiration for friends, family, and loved ones.

Love Gently Falling, written by Melody Carlson, is a romantic novella about the power of Valentine's Day and how one woman discovers love while at the same time saving her family's business. Successful hairstylist to the stare, Rita Jensen, returns to her hometown in Chicago after receiving news that her mother has suffered a stroke. Though Rita must come up with a plan to save her mother's salon, the oncoming holiday and her undeniable feelings for an old classmate become quite a distraction.

Keys of Heaven is the second book in Adina Senft's Healing Grace trilogy. Amish widow, Sarah Yoder, helps her community by creating teas and tinctures from the herbs she grows. She struggles to find love with an Amish man, and she doesn't know what to do about her attraction to her friend, Henry Byler, who has turned away from her beliefs. Sarah's story will show anyone that romantic love is not the only love that matters.

Valentine's Day is an internationally celebrated day of romance, dating back to the 5th century. But today, love touches our lives in so many different ways. Whether you are dedicating the day to your good friends or your life partner, treat them to these wonderful stories of courage, kindness, and love.

Sincerely,

Christina Boys
Editor of LOVE GENTLY FALLING and KEYS OF HEAVEN

  1. I do love flowers, not just for romantic "holidays", but at any time for any reason --- but a book always trumps flowers (even roses), and who can go wrong with a high quality chocolate? I'm not much of a romance reader, but I do love historical fiction, and that does tend to be the same thing. I think my favorite love story has to be A Gathering Of Finches by Jane Kirkpatrick. A bit non-traditional, calling it a love story, perhaps, but it's one I return to annually, and have for more than a decade. I'm almost through reading the new novel, The Secrets Of Midwives by Sally Hepworth, and I do believe it will be competing for my favorite, from now on.

  2. Why books over flowers? Flowers don't last and books you can come back to enjoy over and over again or pass on to share with someone else! I like a lot of romantic books- some favorites are Richard Paul Evan's The Last Promise, Nicholas Sparks A Walk to Remember and James Patterson's Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas

    1. They're all some of my favorites, as well, Katie! I LOVED Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas, and Richard Paul Evans is one of my favorite authors. My husband and I just read Finding Noel and Bill said it is one of his all time favorite books. Good luck!

  3. When I get flowers from hubby, it's usually a single flower or rose. This way the sentiment comes across without wasting all that money =)

    2. There's something so romantic about a single rose! And, yes! Harper Lee's finally going to deliver another one for us. It's been a long time coming! Good luck, Valerie!

  4. I love reading, and while flowers are pretty they don't last as long or give me as much enjoyment as books do. And who doesn't love chocolate!

  6. Such a great tip!! The roses only last for a short time, but a book can be enjoyed forever!! Love it!

  8. Books are better than roses because they stay with you forever. The memory of the roses will fade but the story will longer, always. And come on, it's chocolate!
