Exergen TemporalScanner -- a grandparent's best friend

Back in the 80s when my children were little, a warm forehead meant only one thing... it was time to lay them down on their bellies and get out the good ol' rectal thermometer. Yuck. Thank God those days are over. With a simply 2 second scan across the forehead, I can now know instantly, and painlessly, whether or not my grandchildren have a fever. Brilliant.

I was contacted by the Exergen Corporation to see if I would be interested in doing a review of their TemporalScanner, an infrared thermometer that works by capturing a temperature by simply scanning the heat coming off of the forehead (via the temporal artery). Of course, I was interested! This sounded like an awesome device.

After I received the scanner, I took it out of the box and, following instructions, scanned my forehead. 94.6 degrees. Hmm. I waited 30 seconds and did it again. 96.5. I was getting warmer. After several attempts, I asked my husband to try it. Similar results. Obviously, I was sent a faulty unit. After a short rant about quality control, I put it away, and forgot about it... Until the day I was feeling sick.

I pulled it out of the box again, popped the clear plastic cover off the scanner, placed it on my forehead and... wait a minute. Back up... popped the clear plastic cover off the scanner... Oops. Looks like I missed a step on my first go-round with this amazingly simple device! My bad.

100.1. Yep. I was sick. And, yep, the scanner worked. Quickly and easily.

I have to admit that I've not had any sick kiddos to try it on since I received it. But when I do, I'm certain they'll respond much better to a smooth swipe across the forehead, rather than a traditional thermometer shoved you-know-where.

With my daughter's new baby on the way, I'm certain the Exergen TemporalScanner is going to come in handy time and time again. In case you didn't glean this from the above info, here are the key points:
  • The Exergen TemporalScanner is non-invasive (woo hoo!), easy-to-use and extremely accurate... in just 2 seconds!
  • It will help parents, and grandparents, avoid the painful experience of taking their feverish kiddo's temps rectally and uncomfortably.
  •  Since it only takes 2 seconds and a gentle swipe, you can check your sleeping child's temperature without waking him!
What's not to love about this product? It was even featured on the Today Show and on Grey's Anatomy! And now, you can enter to win one.

Enter using the Rafflecopter below. A winner will be chosen at random on October 10th, in honor of our daughter, Melinda's birthday. Melinda is a nurse anesthetist, so I thought it would be fitting to host a medical-related giveaway.

  1. I used to have a thermometer like this. It just grew legs and walked off and I haven't been able to find one just like this one. The other ones I have found are not sturdy like this one. I would love to have one.

  4. This would be great! I have a two year old who absolutely will NOT allow me to come near her with a thermometer and she is a very light sleep so I can't do it then either.

The winner of the VIP sweeps is going to London.

  5. Winner will be going to London. I could really use this TemporalScanner as I have another grandchild on the way.
This is a great product because when the children are sick
the last thing you want to do is cause them more stress by
coming at them with a regular thermometer. Thanks for the
    sweepstake.
