Thursday's Truth and Tidbits -- Be the Voice!

Have you heard about Paseo or Livi? The fastest-growing brands of toilet paper in the U.S. (at-home consumers and hotel chains, restaurants and schools), they are produced from Asia Pulp and Paper (APP). What's the problem? Well, in order to produce APP, you have to destroy the rain forests of Sumatra. Not good.

The World Wildlife Foundation, while representing some things I don't agree with, are working diligently to stop this assault on the rainforests. They contacted the 20 retailers sourcing Paseo and Livi and urged them to stop. Within a month, 17 or the 20 grocery store chains stopped sourcing these two brands. IGA US even went so far as to commit publicly to not use APP fiber for its own exclusive brands. (Support IGA, folks!!)

Here is a list of chains that have indicated they would stop selling Paseo products, and the ones who have not taken action:

While this is encouraging, for the most part, there is still quite a lot of APP being sold. WWF is asking YOU to be the Voice!

Here's what you can do to help:

Check out the map of where Paseo is on the shelves and follow the instructions on the website. If you're bold enough, ask to speak with the manager of the store where you find Paseo and ask him or her to stop selling it. There are helpful tips on the website to help you know what to say.

Take the time to sign, and share, the pledge.

Above all, STOP BUYING PASEO BRANDS! Look for toilet tissue that is made from 100% recycled material and are FSC-certified (Forest Stewardship Council).

That's it for Thursday's Truth and Tidbits. I hope I've motivated you to do something. Remember, every drop in the bucket counts!
